About Me

Thanks so much for visiting my portfolio!

I love good design that makes life easier and better for people. For as long as I can remember, I've tried to bridge gaps and help overcome differences between people, while trying to help those in need. Design is a powerful, meaningful, and personal way of achieving all of these.

I'm a recent recipient (May 2011) of a Master of Design degree in Communication Planning and Information Design from the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

I did my undergrad at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Initially I was a computer science major, but switched after two years into the Media Studies track of the Science, Technology, and Culture program. I also obtained a minor in Japanese.

On the side, I love playing the violin and immersing myself in music, studying Japanese, dabbling in linguistics and etymology, traveling and learning about other cultures, reading about geology (especially volcanoes) and astronomy, and playing frisbee.

Colophon

This layout was inspired by a screenshot of (a past iteration of) Robbie Manson's website that I saw on Smashing Magazine's website. After weeks of ideating, sketching, and browsing, it had the clean but pronounced look I was looking for.

The index page mouseovers are adapted from a tutorial on Kevin Liew's site.

The webfonts in use are BlackJack for the headers, LibelSuit for the sub-header/nav text, and CartoGothic for the body text.

The tabbed jQuery navigation on the thesis page is made possible by Tabify.
